No I haven’t done any mods. I only used one for testing and review. Check out the Blackstar forums though. There’s a new thread there where someone has tested different valves and speakers. Give you an idea of what the differences sound like.

Thanks yeah, I’ve been pretty impressed with it thus far. I’ve got some ideas for improvements for a proper guitar version. I really need to sit down and sketch them out though.

Ok I’m blown away at the simplicity of using the barrel lock. It works and even if it did rattle, installing a small rubber o’ring or foam to insulate the metal on metal contact of take up the small gap would work fine. Genius!!! Simple and $4.95 at a hardware store. Bravo!!!

I think flipping a coil around wouldn’t really work that great. It would take away the advantages of the rail/pole piece design and probably sound more like a regular humbucker. It might also throw the pickups out of phase for split tones (may or may not be desirable).

Haha, I’m an Ideas man! Don’t put too much pressure on the Ideas man!

Can’t wait for the follow up on this! I’ve been thinking along the lines of the railhammers… reversing the orientation of the second coil could be a useful variant! That way, each string has a fat pole piece and a bit of rail under it. hmm…

I don’t have much experience with humbuckers, at least the fucking-about of them. Is this something you can just… do? It Yourself? As most pickups are simply an array of identical poles or screws, I’d never even thought of it.

I’d love it if you reviewed some BareKnuckle pickups, particularly the two high-output HB-sized P90s and the more unusual HB designs.

I’m saving my pennies for a Charvel So Cal in Candy Blue, and the update portion of this review got me all bothered about it.

“The Tone Zone is still big and brash, but not boomy. There is a great degree of clarity on single note runs, and power chords just chunk and grind in such an awesome way. ” yes please!

Can’t wait to dig into that guitar with some of these protips! Keep it coming plz!
