About me

I’m from Canberra, Australia. I’ve been playing guitar for over 20 years.

I have played in a few bands over years, in both guitar player and singing roles. I’m currently played lead and rhythm guitars in a band called Sewer Sideshow.

I enjoy writing, and reviewing music gear combines two loves. You can also find my reviews over at Jemsite. My username over there is “LonePhantom”. I also write reviews and other posts for the Seymour Duncan blog.

Hey man,

It’s Steve, aka shredmaster from jemsite. This is a nice lookin’ page! I may have to look into what you did for it. Is it through wordpress? If there isn’t much to it, I may start one. Hope the little guy is feelin’ better!

thanks for the help regarding the Blackstar HT-5 head. the link to the thread brought me here and that was this morning. now i realize this is your web page. its pretty sweat! anyway thanks again and keep me updated on your new amp.

Hi, I have one simple question. Do you use DS-1 keeley mod or normal version with HT-5? I need some more distiortion.

  I’m just using a standard Boss DS-1. I’m considering doing some sort of mod to it though. I get great sounds, but a little too much noise. I can deal with it though.

  Seriously, there is no better out of those two guitars. Just different.
  
  You need to get out there, try both out, and decide which one fits you better.

Very much appreciate your review of the Blackstar HT-1R. I am considering picking up one of these in the near future.

I have a question: were you able to dial in something approaching a VOX tone and also perhaps a “Mesa” type tone?

from what I am reading all over the web the hype is basically all sounds are possible with ISF. Did you really find this to be the case?

  To be honest I didn’t go searching for other brands specific tones, just tones I liked. The ISF control is quite flexible, but it’s probably not as flexible when it’s your only tone control.
  
  It’d be worth playing with one to see if it gets close enough for you. I think it’ll get in the realms of the Vox and Mesa tones, but not crazy high gain. Personally there’s plenty for my tastes, but throw in a good overdrive and you’ll get there.
  
  The HT-1 is a great little amp.

I came across a link to your site on metalguitarist.org. Being a guy who started playing back in the 80’s thanks to bands like Maiden and Metallica, I, for “some” reason stopped in the late 90’s. For a chick who dug the fact that I played guitar. ha! But eventually hated that I paid more attention to it than I did her! Anyway, I took a quick run through your site today, and now have my weekend planned out. Reading your site from top to bottom. I’ve just recently got back into guitar again so a lot of this info is gonna be gold. Especially the simple trem block article that you put up. I forgot everything I knew about floating bridges and with your block, I can block/unblock or change strings with the flip of a switch.

I just discovered your personal site after checking out the pickups review on the Black Winter humbuckers. I had no idea you had a connection to Jemsite.

Way to go and I may put those in to replace dual EMG-HZ H1 ceramic humbuckers.
