JamUp Pro is a fantastic, easy to use app.

In conjunction with the JamUp Plug I reviewed last month, Positive Grid have provided me a copy of their premiere guitar amp and effects modeling iOS app, JamUp Pro.

JamUp Pro is one of the newest guitar apps to appear in the iTunes app store, and it has really taken off with a bang. With 6 multi-stage amp models and 14 studio grade effects available from the launch date, and more to come according to Positive Grid, it is great value at $19.99.

The Marshall Class 5, now with the option of a head or combo, and low power modes.

The Marshall Class 5 combo was released back in 2009, and provided excellent classic Marshall class A tone in a small footprint, and low wattage. Now in 2011 Marshall has released a new version of the Class 5 in both head and combo models.

The updated Class 5 still retains the same specifications as the original, but a low power mode control has been added to the back panel. As I am well aware 5 watts is still extremely loud, and without a master volume control the amp needs  to be turned right up to get some great heavy gain. The low power mode sets the Class 5′s wattage at 0.1watts, a much more bedroom friendly level. (more…)

5 watt all valve goodness at a budget price

Small valve amps are becoming more and more popular, and there are quite a few models available for reasonable money too. The problem I’ve found with many of them is the lack of effects loops. I love to use a few pedals, and I want to be able to keep them before the preamp to make sure they play nice with my overall tone.

Browsing through one of the local music stores Pirana Music, I noticed that they had launched their own in-house affordable valve amplifier range. Starting at little 5watt heads and combos, through to 100watt heads. (more…)
