I’m from Canberra, Australia. I’ve been playing guitar for over 18 years.
I have played in a few bands over years, in both guitar player and singing roles. I’m currently working on a project at the moment writing music that could probably be described as progressive punk.
I also enjoy teaching guitar to beginners looking to find their own sound.

Hi, I have one simple question. Do you use DS-1 keeley mod or normal version with HT-5? I need some more distiortion.
I’m just using a standard Boss DS-1. I’m considering doing some sort of mod to it though. I get great sounds, but a little too much noise. I can deal with it though.

Seriously, there is no better out of those two guitars. Just different.
You need to get out there, try both out, and decide which one fits you better.

Very much appreciate your review of the Blackstar HT-1R. I am considering picking up one of these in the near future.
I have a question: were you able to dial in something approaching a VOX tone and also perhaps a “Mesa” type tone?
from what I am reading all over the web the hype is basically all sounds are possible with ISF. Did you really find this to be the case?

Hi Steve, thanks, glad you liked the review.
To be honest I didn’t go searching for other brands specific tones, just tones I liked. The ISF control is quite flexible, but it’s probably not as flexible when it’s your only tone control.
It’d be worth playing with one to see if it gets close enough for you. I think it’ll get in the realms of the Vox and Mesa tones, but not crazy high gain. Personally there’s plenty for my tastes, but throw in a good overdrive and you’ll get there.
The HT-1 is a great little amp.
