Create a two stage potentiometer

As mentioned earlier, I’ve been writing for the Seymour Duncan blog. My latest post is a DIY piece on creating what I’ve called a two stage potentiometer.

The idea came out when I was thinking about pickups like the Seymour Duncan JB, which was originally designed to be used with 250K potentiometers. Many have loaded the venerable JB into brighter sounding guitars with 500K potentiometers, which are typically used with humbuckers.

These people have often found that the JB sounded too bright and ice-picky in this setup. I figured there must be way to make a volume potentiometer that can switch between 500K and 250K.

Well, I found a way to do this, and you can read about it all here: Create a two stage potentiometer.
